Hardwick Hall Parks

February 4, 2008

On Saturday I went round the parks near Hardwick Hall with my parents. We reached it by travelling down the M1 and getting off at junction 29. From there to the Hall is signposted. We followed the signposts most of the way. Instead of turning off at the last one we continued on down Hodmire lane, before turning on to a road which went under the M1 and led to the parks.

The Hall is managed by the National Trust and the website is here. You can find the Google map here

The park is made up of a number of lakes. Some of them laid out on a series of steps. While there we went round the main lake getting some pictures of the lake and the birds there. There was mainly ducks, seagulls, moor hens and geese.

The rim of the lake was iced over, so the birds had trouble getting to the edge.

I was taking a picture of a moor hen and had just gotten the shot framed up when a goose suddenly attacked it. I’m not sure what provoked the attack but it made for some interesting pictures.

Afterwards the moorhen stormed off in disgust.

As I said we went round the lake and got a number of pictures of it.

There is a lot more to see at the parks than I’ve shown here and it’s somewhere I’d recommend going.

You can see more pictures here and here.
