New Cameras

October 4, 2008

It’s been a while since I’ve last posted. I’m going to try to get back into updating more regularly from now on.

I was in Jessops today, buying a new memory card for my camera, when I noticed that Nikon have two new cameras out.

One is the D90. I’d known this was coming out for a while. It’s the replacement to the D80. Externally it looks the same as the D80 but it does have some features from the D300, such as live preview mode and dust removal. One big new feature is a movie mode, it’s the first DLSR to support this.

The other one is a D700, which I hadn’t heard anything about. Looking at the specs in the shop it looked to be the same as the D300 except for a slightly higher resolution. In actual fact it’s the internals from a D3 stuffed into the casing for a D300, which means it’s the second Nikon camera to feature a full frame sensor.

Like the D3 it has the disadvantage that if you’re using a DX lens, the resolution gets reduced from 12MP to just 5MP. Since all my lenses are DX lenses, even if I had known this was coming out I probably would have still bought the D300 instead.
